PCOD/PCOS Friendly Alternatives To Roti & Chapati

Cauliflower is low-carb and keto friendly, so the first option is most preferred as it will keep your carbs lower than other options.

  1. Cauliflower and Bajra Roti

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup bajra (black millet) flour
  • 3/4 cup grated cauliflower
  • 1 1/2 tbsp finely chopped spring onions whites 1 1/2 tbsp finely chopped spring onion greens
  • 2 tbsp finely chopped coriander (dhania)
  • 1/2 tsp ginger-green chilli paste 1/2 tsp grated garlic (lehsun)
  • salt to taste
  • bajra (black millet) flour for rolling
  • 1 3/4 tsp oil for greasing and cooking

Method

  • To make cauliflower and bajra roti, combine all the ingredients and knead into a soft-smooth dough, using enough water.
  • Divide the dough into 6 equal portions.
  • Roll out one portion of the dough into a circle of 100 mm. (4″) diameter.
  • Heat a non-stick tava (griddle) using 1/4 tsp of oil.
  • Place the roti on it and cook it, using 1/4 tsp of oil, till it turns golden brown in colour from both the sides.
  • Repeat steps 3 to 5 to make 5 more parathas.
  • Serve the cauliflower and bajra roti immediately.

2. Jowar, Bajra Spring Onion Roti

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup jowar (white millet) flour
  • 1/2 cup bajra (black millet) flour
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped spring onions whites and greens
  • 1 tsp finely chopped green chillies
  • 1/2 tsp chilli powder
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder (haldi)
  • 1/2 tsp coriander (dhania) powder
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds (jeera) powder
  • 1 tsp oil
  • salt to taste
  • jowar (white millet) flour for rolling
  • 2 1/2 tsp oil for cooking

Method

  • To make jowar bajra spring onion roti, combine all the ingredients in a deep bowl and knead into a soft dough using enough warm water.
  • Cover with a lid and keep aside for 10 minutes.
  • Divide the dough into 5 equal portions.
  • Roll out a portion of the dough into a 125 mm. (5″) diameter circle using a little jowar flour for rolling.
  • Heat a non-stick tava (griddle) and cook the roti, using ½ tsp of oil, till it turns 6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 to make 4 more rotis. Serve the jowar bajra spring onion roti immediately.

3. Jowar Bajra Besan Thalipeeth

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup jowar (white millet) flour
  • 1/4 cup bajra (black millet) flour
  • 1/4 cup besan (bengal gram flour)
  • 1/4 cup whole wheat flour (gehun ka atta)
  • 3/4 cup grated cabbage
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onions
  • 1/2 tsp green chilli paste
  • 1/2 tsp coriander-cumin seeds (dhania-jeera) powder
  • 2 tbsp finely chopped coriander (dhania)
  • 1/2 tsp chilli powder
  • salt to taste
  • whole wheat flour (gehun ka atta) for rolling
  • 1 1/2 tsp oil for cooking.

Method

  • To make jowar bajra besan thalipeeth, combine all the ingredients in a deep bowl and knead into a soft dough using approx. 5 tbsp of water.
  • Divide the dough into 6 equal portions.
  • Roll a portion of the dough into a 150 mm. (6″) diameter circle using a little whole wheat flour for rolling.
  • Heat a non-stick tava (griddle) and cook the thalipeeth, using 1/4 tsp of oil till golden brown spots appear from both the sides.
  • Serve the jowar bajra besan thalipeeth immediately with low-fat curds.

4. Oats And Beetroot Roti

Ingredients

  • Oats – 1.5 cups
  • Salt
  • Whole wheat flour – 0.5 cups
  • Ginger – 1 knot
  • Onion – 1
  • Green chilli – 1
  • Beetroot juice – 1 cup
  • Red chilli powder – 1 tsp

Directions

  • Grind the oats into a fine powder and mix it with the whole wheat flour
  • Add the chopped ginger and chilli to the flour mix
  • Make a roti like dough using beetroot juice
  • Add the salt and red chilli powder and knead the dough
  • Let it rest for around 15-20 minutes
  • Roll small balls of dough into round shapes like a roti and cook it on a tawa
  • Apply ghee to the rotis if you prefer them crispy
